Social Action Leader

Since 2021, I have been on the board of trustees at my synagogue with ownership of the Social Action / Social Justice portfolio. This means I am responsible for helping organize the social action and social justice initiatives.

I first got involved with SA/SJ at BJBE in 2018 helping get voters registered for the midterm election. Since then, I've helped lead several voter engagement initiatives, helped resettle several refugee families, and helped lead dozens of collections of food, clothing, bicycles, toys and other things. It has been extremely rewarding.

I don't have one specific issue that I'm passionate about. Instead, I find out what others are passionate about and work to help those passions bear fruit. I don't consider myself an activist or a "social justice warrior." I'm an organized humanist.

This is what I've learned during my time in social action leadership:
Most people want to help improve the lives of their neighbors and of people in general. If you give them the opportunity to do that, with clear instructions on how to make an impact and with appreciation on the impact they had, the results will be inspirational.
